Indian Gioconda
Painting by Lana Korolievskaia
60 x 60 cm • Cardboard, Oil
Location:
Dnipro, Ukraine
The famous painting by Leonardo is a portrait of a noble Italian lady, a representative of the aristocracy. But are only people of high society worthy of the artist praising them in his art? A simple girl from an endangered Indian nation flaunts in this painting, that is reminiscent of the composition of the Mona Lisa. She does not look flirtatiously at the viewer, trying to flirt with him. An unknown Indian woman does not care what an outside observer thinks of her. Her eyes are proud and calm, despite all the difficulties of her life. You cannot call her a sophisticated lady, rotating in high society. The clothes of the Indian woman are not made of exquisite fabrics in an aristocratic fashion. And in the background is not the landscape of the area in which she lives. Her world is not external - physical, it is rich not in luxury, but in the wisdom of her glorious ancestors. With the Gioconda, the picture is also related by the muted color, which creates the atmosphere of the past, which has come down to us thanks to the preserved daguerreotypes.
